The completed Cascade mining district. Note how the only trees in the area are conifers, and not very big ones. Just out of view, below this picture, there are aspens. But no other trees are in this area. By contrast, images of the finished right side of the layout will show cottonwoods and other deciduous trees as well as much taller conifers, thus simulating a lower elevation.
