This is the deep gorge with nearly floor to ceiling scenery that sort of separates the two sides of the layout. A few items of note here. First, note how the backdrop is painted to enhance the foreground as before. The illusion here is that the canyon goes back for miles. Second, note how the rock work where the water will ultimately go is painted with notably darker washes. This will add tremendous realism to the waterfalls. Lastly, this dramatic scenery will act to separate the two sides of the layout. (More on that in photo 22.)
